Returning to Iowa and Saving America

Well, the United States is certainly a country, and I’ve now driven across a lot of it (with Alec). He was a little surprised by certain aspects of the Midwest — especially a very overweight woman in a Dennys in Effingham, IL, at 2AM, who was wearing a church softball league shirt proclaiming that she was one of the “Bad Girls Gone Good.” Alec considered that a symptom of society’s general disfunctionality.
So then Dennis Kucinich (of “barely beating Reverend Al Sharpton in most state primaries” fame, who might still be running for the 2004 Democratic nomination for President) wrote this piece for The Nation. And NBC cancelled West Wing (via Aimee), which is too bad, but it probably needed to happen. I’ve been watching Commander in Chief on iTunes, and it sucks a lot compared to West Wing, too: it’s a family drama that takes place in an incredibly sanitized, issueless White House. And the President’s a fucking “Independent” (Republican) woman who is supposedly a brilliant academic, but she’s only President because of an unlikely series of accidents. Also, she’s homophobic. And Zach from Saved By The Bell is on it, and he still looks the same.
Also, in the hood nothin’s changin:
