51% of Republican Caucus Goers Support Iraq Withdrawal Within Six Months

Greg Sargent at TPM Election Central noticed this nugget in the latest Strategic Vision poll of likely caucus goers:

 4. Do you favor a withdrawal of all United States military from Iraq within the next six months? (Republicans Only)
Yes 51%
No 39%
Undecided 10%

Frankly, the number does not surprise me.  Candidates who have more hard-line positions on the war avoid wearing their positions on their sleeves when they are in town, and I think that while immigration hurt McCain here, his outspoken support of the surge caused him just as much trouble over the past six months.  Iowa Republicans are social conservatives, not hawks.

Also worth noting — and this is something Greg Sargent misses in his write-up — is that the poll screen intended only to include caucus going Republicans, not Republicans as a whole, and the results may have been different had the screen been wider.  Still, though, among the most influential group of Republicans in the state, support for withdrawal is high.

  1. I never thought I’d be voting as a Republican, but for Ron Paul that is just what I am doing in 08′. Hillary and Obama are Israeli pawns. Everyone ought to see that by now, and register not as an Independent, but as a Republican and vote for this man. When our government owned media tries to ‘disappear’ him and silence his voice, you know he’s fighting for the people.

  2. I agree with Mary. If only more people would look into his platform. I think there would be a tremendous swelling of support. After all, it is in “their” best interests.

  5. These responses are a clear sign real Republicans are tired of AIPAC running their party. The GOP is already poised to lose ALL their incumbent US Senators running in 2008. If they want to continue to play as a serious national party, the GOP better nominate Ron Paul. A lot of Republicans believe respect for the US Constitution is a STARTING point for political political differences. It’s too bad no one in the Party establishment feels that way.

  7. I hope that everyone who wants to bring the troops home learn about Ron Paul. He speaks the truth and means what he says. His experience shows that he does not bow down to special interest groups like the other main candidates.

  9. Ron Paul has the guts to say what no other GOP is willing to admit.

He is up against a media machine that would have us vote for either Hillary or Rudy, another one of those moments in the voting booth were we ask ourselves “how did this happen?”

I believe most Americans are drawn to Dr. Paul due to his clear message about the Constitution and our place in the world not as the enforcer and military bully, but of leader and innovator, a country that is respected for its history, except of course the last seven years…

Peace is much harder to wage than war, but much more gratifying.

  10. It is amazing how the media is still trying to ignore Ron Paul. This only proves there is now in place a military-industiral-media complex. All the talking heads from those on Fox to those on CNN all live in the Washington DC bubble. They go to the same parties, they flirt with the same women, their kids attend the same schools, and they look to each other for approval. Whether it be Chris Matthews, Keith Oberman, Wolf Blitzer, or the Fox team, they all think anyone outside the bubble is just some idiot waitng to be instructed by them as to what reality is and what should be done.
Were Ron Paul to win it would show this self centered, self aggrandizing pudocracy that people aren’t as stupid and malleable as they think.

  11. This means Paul is at 51% in the Scientific polls, right? Or is it the internet polls?

  12. There need be only ONE question asked of your candidate, no matter WHO it is!

“Do you support the Constitution as written by the founders to limit the power of the federal government and protect the rights of the People ABOVE ALL ELSE?”

If there is the slightest hesitation in their response, you have the wrong candidate.

  13. It’s not scientific but not one comment on this board has been against Ron Paul, to hell with those stupid gallup polls that either don’t mention his name or only mention it if you press 5 for other candidates.

I was at the straw poll last night in Lakewood, Washington and we won for the third month in a row each month steadily increasing our overall votes and margins over the next leading candidate. Politics is decided by the people that show up, I challenge everyone to show up to their precincts with a notarized index card with their vote on it, refuse to vote on electronic machines which are obviously easily manipulated.

Get involved with your local supporters on meetup.com and find out where the straw polls are in your area send a message to the Republican leadership that we care about the rule of law by casting ballots for Ron Paul, the only man running for president who actually believes in the integrity of the oath he takes to uphold the Constitution of the United States of America.

Dr. Paul’s views on economic policy are those of such notables as Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, Andrew Jackson, Abraham Lincoln, James Garfield, and Thomas Edison to name a few that are verified by the following quotes which I highly encourage you to understand and absorb fully.

“In the Colonies, we issue our own paper money. It is called ‘Colonial Scrip.’ We issue it in proper proportion to make the goods and services pass easily from the producers to the consumers. In this manner, creating ourselves our own paper money, we control its purchasing power and we have no interest to pay to no one. In this manner, by creating ourselves our own paper money, we control its purchasing power, and we have no interest to pay, to anyone. You see, a legitimate government can both spend and lend money into circulation, while banks can only lend significant amounts of their promissory bank notes, for they can neither give away nor spend but a tiny fraction of the money the people need. Thus, when your bankers here in England place money in circulation, there is always a debt principal to be returned and usury to be paid. The result is that you have always too little credit in circulation to give the workers full employment. You do not have too many workers, you have too little money in circulation, and that which circulates, all bears the endless burden of unpayable debt and usury.” - Benjamin Franklin

“I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies.” - President Thomas Jefferson

“I wish it were possible to obtain a single amendment to our constitution - taking from the federal government their power of borrowing.” President Thomas Jefferson, 1798

“If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation then by deflation, the banks and the corporations will grow up around them, will deprive the people of all property until their children wake up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered. The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs.” - President Thomas Jefferson, The Debate Over The Recharter Of The Bank Bill, (1809)

“All of the perplexities, confusion, and distress in America arises, not from the defects of the Constitution or Confederation, not from want of honor or virtue, so much as from downright ignorance of the nature of coin, credit, and circulation.” — President John Adams letter to Thomas Jefferson 8-25-1798

“You are a den of vipers and thieves and I intend to rout you out, and by the eternal God, I will rout you out. If Congress has the right to issue paper money, it was given them to be used by themselves, and not to be delegated to individuals or corporations..” — Andrew Jackson’s address to Congress 1829

On January 8, 1835, Jackson paid off the final installment on our national debt, and it was the only time in history that our national debt was reduced to zero, and we were able to accumulate a surplus, $35 million of which was distributed to the States. Nicholas P. Trist, the Presidents personal secretary, said: This is the crowning glory of A.J.s life and the most important service he has ever rendered his country. The Boston Post compared it to Christ throwing the money-changers out of the Temple

“I have two great enemies, the southern army in front of me and the financial institutions, in the rear. Of the two, the one in the rear is the greatest enemy….. I see in the future a crisis approaching that unnerves me and causes me to tremble for the safety of my country. As a result of the war, corporations have been enthroned and an era of corruption in high places will follow, and the money power of the country will endeavor to prolong its reign by working upon the prejudices of the people until wealth is aggregated in a few hands and the Republic is destroyed. I feel at this moment more anxiety for the safety of my country than ever before, even in the midst of the war.” - Abraham Lincoln –President Abraham Lincoln in 1863, at the height of the Civil War

“The government should create, issue and circulate all the currency and credit needed to satisfy the spending power of the government and the buying power of consumers….. The privilege of creating and issuing money is not only the supreme prerogative of Government, but it is the Government’s greatest creative opportunity. By the adoption of these principles, the long-felt want for a uniform medium will be satisfied. The taxpayers will be saved immense sums of interest, discounts and exchanges. The financing of all public enterprises, the maintenance of stable government and ordered progress, and the conduct of the Treasury will become matters of practical administration. The people can and will be furnished with a currency as safe as their own government. Money will cease to be the master and become the servant of humanity. Democracy will rise superior to the money power.” - Abraham Lincoln Senate document 23, Page 91. 1865

“Whosoever controls the volume of money in any country is absolute master of all industry and commerce… And when you realise that the entire system is very easily controlled, one way or another, by a few powerful men at the top, you will not have to be told how periods of inflation and depression originate.” - James Garfield (assasinated within weeks of release of this statement during first year of his Presidency in 1881)

“If our nation can issue a dollar bond, it can issue a dollar bill. The element that makes the bond good, makes the bill good, also. The difference between the bond and the bill is the bond lets money brokers collect twice the amount of the bond plus an additional 20%, where as the currency pays nobody but those who contribute directly in some useful way. It is absurd to say that our country can issue $30 million dollars in bonds and not $30 million in currency. Both are promises to pay, but one promise fattens the usurers and the other helps the people.” –Thomas Edison

  14. I meant to say also that he is the only man I’ve ever seen come out and say on national television that the federal reserve is unconstitutional.

Seriously people I for one am sick and tired of working part of each day to pay an ever increasing amount of interest to to a bunch of foreign banks that own the federal reserve and we get nothing in return but inflation via the fractional reserve system that inflates every dollar printed and deposited in a bank 10 times over through more usury that serves only to drive our families into foreclosure and then the banks come and buy up all the property it’s just like Thomas Jefferson said in 1809, we need to elect this man now for the sake of our nation he may be our only hope. Not only that all the money the government does spend (by borrowing money and promising to pay back all the debt plus interest with my future tax dollars!) goes straight to the war and God only knows what else.
