Hillary and Giuliani Are Neighbors in Iowa City

John Deeth snapped this photo of former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani’s new Iowa City campaign office:

Clinton and Giuliani offices

Giuliani is the first Republican to open an office in Iowa City, county seat of “The People’s Republic of Johnson County.” Iowa City is known for its large progressive community, but Deeth correctly notes why opening an office here may make sense for a campaign like Giuliani’s:

Unlike the Democratic caucuses, where delegates are apportioned to counties and precincts by a complex formula based on general election returns, the Republican caucuses simply count raw votes. Though Johnson County is the most Democratic county in the state by percentage, it’s still number eight in the number of registered Republicans, one notch ahead of GOP rotten borough Sioux County.

Notably, Giuliani’s office is right next-door to the Clinton campaign’s Iowa City office, and is only a short ways from offices for the Obama, Edwards, and Richardson campaigns.  The high-visibility, downtown location is a bit surprising, considering Giuliani’s central office is to the west of Des Moines, tucked away in an office park where folks who aren’t looking for it probably won’t see it.
